I’m definitely not a professional photographer, but it’s crazy what you can capture these days with just your phone. Every time we visit our daughter in New York—she moved there in 2022 to follow her dreams in music and acting—I find myself captivated by the city. There’s just something about the buildings, the way the light hits them, the mix of old and new.
Brooklyn especially has this cool, gritty charm that I can’t get enough of. The brownstones, the murals, the fire escapes, and the subway. Everytime we are at the Lorimer Street elevated station, I find myself taking a pic, even though I have done it everytime. I love just staying five steps behind my family and getting pictures of them walking, or seeing a brick wall or a shadow that caught my eye. I guess it’s my way of soaking it all in—and holding onto those moments a little longer. Visiting her is special enough, but getting to see the city through my own lens just adds something extra.
